Hyampom,
California

Hyampom. There is no place quite like it. Hyampom is located in a
beautiful valley in Trinity County, California. The valley is formed by the
confluence of the South Fork of the Trinity River and Hayfork Creek. It is a
beautiful location.
The South Fork of the Trinity River is a nationally designated Wild and Scenic
River with no dams along its entire stretch. The river supports a salmon run;
and the headwaters drain the northern portion of the Yolla Bolla Wilderness in
the Mendocino National Forest. There are some awesome swimming holes along the
river and lots of area to explore. Most of Trinity county lies within the Shasta-Trinity National Forest and so growth of the area is limited.
Hyampom has a population of about 250 and sits at an elevation of 1300 feet. It
is about 50 miles inland from the coast, and east of a 4000 ft. mountain range.
Hyampom valley gets about 35 to 40 inches of rain a year. Some of the mountains in
the north coast ranges get double that! Forty inches is
just about perfect, as it keeps everything growing and the ground water
recharging, while allowing for plenty of winter sun in between storms. Also, the
Hyampom Valley is suitable for year round gardening, which is difficult in most
of Trinity County due to higher elevations, and winter snow fall.
Hyampom is located 24 miles west of Hayfork, a town of about 2,000. Weaverville
is the county seat, a ninety-minute drive away. Weaverville is also the
gateway to the Trinity Alps, which is one of California's premiere wilderness
areas. Both Hayfork and Weaverville have small farmer's markets in the summer.
The area is rich with great hiking, swimming, camping and exploring opportunities.
